Council of States approves amendment for facilitation of traffic

On 14. May 2013 the Traffic Commission of the Council of States in an advisory capacity approved the amendment planned for all electric vehicles up to 20 km/h.

The Council of States is to approve the facilitation of traffic on 13. June 2013. The changes will be coming into effect after the six month consultation in 2014. Electric small motorbikes up to 20 km/h shall be equated with motor-assisted bicycles or E-Bikes concerning traffic rules and requirements for the drivers.

• The electric vehicles are allowed to use bicycle circulation areas
• The vehicles can be driven by individuals over the age of 14 years holding a moped license or when older than 16 years without any license
• The periodic vehicle inspections are omitted

The Segway Personal Transporter (PT) remains classified as a small motorbike. Therefore there will be no changes made concerning the regulation and legal obligation to insure the vehicles.
